DOS text files have CR LF (\015 \012 or ^M ^J) at the end of each line and a ^Z (\032) as an end-of-file character.
Mac text files end each line with CR (\015)
Unix text files end each line with LF (\012)
Translation between file formats
In Unix
To translate a Mac file to Unix, use:
tr
'\015' '\012' <
macfile

To translate a DOS file to Unix, use:
tr -d '\015\032' <
dosfile
